All at Sea?

I didn't take a photo of anything today-although it was a great one: wonderful church time; fab dinner cooked by roommate; ever so delightful chat with some fav friends; and an entertaining evening of delivering nice notes. I decided since I didn't take any pictures of said events, I would tell you the origin of the name of my blog.

Several years ago while watching Jay Leno (who I miss-seriously, Conan is yuck) I saw a performer who just blew me away. He was a little english lad who could play the piano like nobody's business and had an AMAZING voice. I of course fell in love and went out and bought his CD. I kept tabs on him and anxiously awaited the day he would come do a concert in SLC. When they released the dates of his US concert the closest one was unfortunately in Reno. I bought tickets, convinced my dear friend Mika to go with me, and we road tripped it to see him perform. Hands down, the BEST concert I have ever been to. He was great on TV and CD, about a million times better in person. The best part of the night: I got to meet him!

Anyways...the title of my blog: All at Sea is my favorite song (yes, I do have 1 song that is my all time favorite). I couldn't think of anything clever or cute to name my blog so I just went with the song title. I decided to google "all at sea" and see what came up. In addition to several references to the actual song, I found this:

Meaning

In a state of confusion and disorder.

quite fitting, don't you think? Anyways-that's the story of my blog title. Listen to the song-you'll love it too. Perhaps tomorrow I'll do better at taking a photo of the day...

A photo a day...

so once upon a time i decided that i was going to take a photo each day of the summer and then make a book out of them. i think i ended up taking pictures about half way through the summer and then kind of dropped the project. i have decided that august is going to be my photo a day month of the summer. i've hardly taken any pictures this summer and figure that's a decent way to make up for it. although-i kind of forgot that it's august already. and since it's midnight, technically it's aug 2nd so i'm already behind. oops. so i dropped the ball on the 1st but i'm going to post the picture of me post-lasik. check out the hot plastic eye covers...

fyi-short story: the surgery went great and i can see 20/20 now! hooray! long story: i may have taken a bit too much valium and almost passed out in the middle of the surgery. talk to me if you want the story...and i apologize for the sick looking picture...and sorry about the underlining. don't know how to get rid of it.

rice-a four letter word

i love to cook. and i like to think that i am a pretty good one. give me any recipe and usually it turns out good! give me a set of ingredients and i can turn them into something wonderful without a recipe. i make killer spaghetti. i have perfected my cheesecake recipe. what i'm trying to say is that i'm not cooking challenged.

UNLESS 'rice' is in the title.

i make great desserts, but my RICE crispy treats never, ever turn out right. growing up, we have a rice maker. you just put all the ingredients in the pot, press the on button, and a little while later you have perfect rice. when i moved out of the dorms and into an apartment with a kitchen, lara has used her dining plus to purchase a rice cooker, so we used that.

the first time i had to make rice in a pot was a couple weeks ago. it was an utter disaster. i burned the rice to a crisp. burnt black. i was not deterred. i threw it out and tried again (after looking up how to make rice online) and it actually turned out right. i tried to make rice today again. while it wasn't the disaster from last time, it wasn't super good either. boo.

apparently RICE is my four letter word when it comes to cooking. first kitchen thing i'm buying when i move is a rice cooker...

some days i get sad thinking about leaving utah (strange i know) and other days i wonder why i decided to stay here for the summer and can't wait to get out to new york (today was definitely one of those days). so i have yet to find housing in NYC or actually book my plane ticket out there. BUT-i have found several things i can't wait to do when i get out there! the NYC food and wine festival put on by the food network is happening oct 9-11. how sweet would that be to hang out with all the big time food network chefs and other foodies! also, SYTYCD live in long beach! october 14! i have loved this season and would love to see them perform live!! the queens half marathon on september 20th is calling my name! can't wait for my first NYC race! and i can't forget one of my fav singers is performing in NYC November 19! i just adore him and his concerts never disappoint. and of course there's the list of shows to see, places to shop, and restaurants to go to.

...oh yeah. and there's that thing called work...NYC here I come!!!

50 days...

So I just counted and I start life as a real person in 50 days! Ah! This summer has just flown by! I suppose it's time to get serious, perhaps buy my plane ticket to NYC, start looking for housing...
