2013 Goals: April check-in

It’s time for the April goals check-in!!
  • Goal 1: I have started going to yoga. I think it will help me along in my goal to be able to do the splits!
  • Goal 2: I am slowly but surely making progress on my goal to read L’Alchemista
  • Goal 3, 4, and 5: I didn’t manage to send a single piece of mail, attend a single spin class, or make it to the temple. How did April pass by so fast?!
  • Goal 6: Registration opened and I’m officially registered for the NYC marathon. Again. Let’s all start praying now for good weather on race day shall we? I have decided that I’m going to get a running coach to help me train and keep me motivated!!
  • Goal 8: In preparation for the movie, our book club read the Great Gatsby this past month. It was a great, quick easy read. I’m glad we read it because even though I read it in high school, I had forgotten pretty much everything that happened. I cannot wait for the movie!!!
  • Goal 9: Tickets are booked for Portugal!! In just about a month I will be on my way!! I suppose we should start making some other arrangements, like hotels….
  • Goal 11: This month was one of the first sewing months for the quilts. I was rather nervous but once I got going, it actually went pretty quick. I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

  • Goal 12: Once again, I only managed to play tennis twice this month. I took most of April off to let my foot rest and I think it was worth it. So far (knock on wood) it hasn’t been hurting at all!
  • Goal 13: I definitely was better at writing in my journal this month but still have a lot of room for improvement!
  • Goal 14: The cooking just didn’t happen this month. There was too much other stuff going on. Hopefully I can do more in May!

Weekend Update: 6.23.2013

It's been ages since I've done one of these. Let's be real-it's been ages since I've blogged in general. Is anyone still even reading this thing?!

Friday
Every year I want to go to the Strawberry Days rodeo and every year I hear about it after it's already ended. This year I actually made it!! Hooray!!! It was a good time although next rodeo I go to, I'll have to work a little bit harder at my outfit. Apparently cardigans at the rodeo are a no-no. I need to purchase some plaid flannel, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat.

Saturday
Saturday was a busy day!!!! I started off the day with my first "long" run for my NYC marathon training. I think the last time I ran was when I ran the NYC Half Marathon (without training for it, may I remind you). It was a little bit rough, and it was only 2 miles. 2 miles!!! As my dad so kindly pointed out, I'd still have to run 24.2 miles after that. Ha. Nonetheless, after it was done, I felt good and I'm excited to get back into running shape!

After my run, me and my dad went to the farmer's market downtown. I LOVE the farmer's market! I think it's so much fun!! We found a new friend while we were there. That owl was ENORMOUS and rather scary...I'm not sure who's more terrified-me or the owl...

After the market, I went to the pool at Karen's apartment complex. We decided that it needs to be a pool summer. So excited about this!! Then I ran a bunch of random errands and rested for a minute at home. Saturday night I went to Eric and Natalie's wedding!!!!! So fun to see them and to celebrate with them!!! And it was great to see some of my NYC people there too!

After the wedding I stayed up far too late hanging out and watching Pitch Perfect. Saturdays are just not long enough!!

Sunday
Sunday I woke up with a terrible migraine and spent the entire morning in bed. Boo. I did manage to make it to church though. After church I made some delicious enchiladas for dinner. I made up the recipe so I'm glad they turned out!! Then I spent the rest of the evening hanging out, catching up on my DVR and trying to recover from my headache. Not an ideal way to end the weekend but I suppose it forced me to rest-apparently I'm not great at that...oooops.

Up ahead for this week: Stake YSA BBQ, Lagoon Day!, yoga, a new hairdo, and a nice low-key somewhat-empty weekend!!

2013 Goals: March check-in

Yes. I realize it's already May. I'm a terrible blogger. Sorry. Or something. But on to the goals check-in!!

  • Goal 3: I only sent 4 pieces of mail!! Not the greatest but better than zero. I have a long list of letters to send, I just need to make the time to sit down and write them!
  • Goal 4: I didn’t make it to a single class. This goal may need to be re-evaluated…
  • Goal 6: I ran the NYC Half Marathon on March 17th!!! It was ROUGH. Note to self: never, ever run a half marathon again without doing some kind of training. I think the most I “ran” before the race was 4 miles. It’s a BIG jump from 4 miles to 13.1 miles. By some sort of miracle, I finished the race. The first 8 miles actually were not terrible but the last 5.1 were rough. It was freezing. The water in the water cups had frozen by the time the runners got to them. We were running a straight shot for pretty much 5 miles. And my ipod decided it was too cold and turned off at mile 11. Ouch. I am pretty proud of myself for starting the race, and finishing it. I was incredibly tempted to sleep in and go to brunch instead. I’m glad I ran it but I have learned my lesson and am going to train for races from now on.
  • Goal 7: I found a tri to do!!! It’s just a baby one, and it’s a reverse tri. Part of me is scared that I’ll jump in the pool and drown. But it should be fun!! It’s not until labor day so I have plenty of time to brush up on my swimming and learn how to ride my road bike.
  • Goal 8: I finished reading the Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio. It was our book club book for the month. I didn’t love it-most people in the book club did.
  • Goal 9: I have booked a vacation!!! I’M GOING TO PORTUGAL!!!!!! So so excited about this-I’m not sure what there is in Portugal but it should be fab!
  • Goal 11: Caroline and I are still on schedule with the quilts. It’s turning out to bit a bit more involved than we thought so the plan has changed a little bit but we’re still on track to finish by the end of the year! We got together and just pinned the strips together and chatted. Next month is going to be a big one-we start sewing!!!
  • Goal 12: I only managed to play tennis twice this month. I was on track to get lots of playing in but then injured myself running and have taken almost a month off. Hopefully April will be better!
