Renter's Insurance?

Does anyone have renter's insurance? Do I need it? Who did you go through? How does it even work? Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated!! I'm thinking I should've paid more attention in that personal finance class I took a year ago...

We have renter's insurance, but really only because where we live requires it. We didn't use it at all last year, however when we had our car broken into renter's insurance would of actually covered it if it would of been a high cost of damage. I guess it can be a good thing, but I dont really find that we use it. Its not too expensive though. We go through liberty mutual, and they give us discounts for having our car insurance with them and for Brian and I being BYU graduates. You can go through whoever you have your car insurance through and they will usually give you a discount for having more than one type of insurance coverage through them. Hope that helps a little.

You should get it. When Matt and I first got married we also thought it wasn't important to get. Our stuff wasn't that nice or fancy. We told this to one of our neighbors and they said that it doesn't matter if our stuff isn't nice - it's our stuff and we can't afford to replace it should something happen. Renters insurance is really cheap, ours was $10 a month or something, and then we got $10 off of our car insurance so it was essentially free. You should ask your parents car insurance provider if they can do it for you.
